With a coastline, loads of wide open spaces and friendly little towns, Hampshire is a great place to bring up kids. With plenty of property for sale in Hampshire, it’s a perfect place to start and raise a young family.
Close to London and with the big cities of Southampton and Portsmouth on the doorstep, there is always plenty of city life to enjoy, but it’s the countryside that makes this a really special place to live.
Naval and military history
Hampshire has had a long and glorious association with the armed forces. Portsmouth has long been one of the main naval centres for Britain, and today you can still see plenty of that on display in the city.
Portsmouth’s historic dockyard takes you aboard HMS victory, HMS Warrior 1860 and there’s also the Mary Rose Museum. If all that doesn’t capture the kids’ imaginations then nothing will.
Also, Aldershot was long home to the British Army and there is still plenty to see and do here. With museums and memorials throughout the town, it’s well worth a visit.
The Royal Green Jackets museum in Winchester and the Royal Armoury at Fareham are also worth a look.
OK, so not every kid wants to spend time looking at churches, but Winchester Cathedral is not just any old church.
Parts of it are over 1,000 years old and its history is truly fascinating. The town itself is really beautiful, although you would expect nothing less from the former capital of England.
Here is something a little more fun for the kids, especially the really young ones, as Paulton’s Park is home to Peppa Pig World. There are lots of rides and attractions to enjoy and perfect for a family day out.
One thing that won’t cost a penny is exploring the Hampshire countryside. With the North Downs and New Forest close by, the whole county is a big kids’ playground.
Get outside and explore, go cycling or walking or try out some of the exciting activities that you can find in the region.
All in all, Hampshire is a great, safe and enjoyable place to bring up a family. Whether you’re in the city, a small town or enjoying a rural life, you are never far from something fun to do. So why not come and check the place out?
