With a laid-back vibe, a cracking sunshine record and more beaches than you can shake a parasol at, family holidays to Menorca are the obvious choice for parents seeking a top-notch summer holiday destination.
Unlike its livelier island neighbours, Menorca is renowned as the ‘quiet one’. Of course it’s still got its fair share of evening entertainment and hotel-run events, along with a handful of bars and pubs here or there, but it’s all on a much quieter setting than the upbeat resorts of Majorca or up-all-night Ibiza. This low-key vibe attracts holidaymakers from all walks of life, and in particular, there’s plenty on offer for families with kids of all ages.
Take the child-friendly resort of Cala ‘n Forcat for instance. Situated on a rocky headland, this pleasant resort is awash with tiny bays and rocky coves, offering shallow shores that are well sheltered by craggy cliffs rising up on either side of pristine waters. There are plenty of bathing platforms and local activities, including low-key watersports and various boat trips which the kids will love. Cala ‘n Forcat is considered the liveliest of the resorts in Menorca, with its bars, restaurants and the odd live music or karaoke joint, but it’s by no means a rowdy place. Instead, take your pick from authentic Spanish restaurants and British-themed eateries, and while away the evenings enjoying a family meal or taking in the local hotel entertainment.
You’ll also find a local water park here, and various activities like bouncy castles and trampolines, perfect for keeping the kids amused. Plus, many tour operators have fantastic family hotels on offer which come with kids’ clubs and various child-friendly amenities. And when it’s time to get out and explore a little, Menorca offers plenty to see and do. Head to S’Albufera des Grau to explore these protected wetlands, or take the kids to the beach at Santandria to try their hand at watersports. Here, you’ll find a bit of everything, from jet-skiing and pedalo hire to banana boats and scuba diving. Or, pick up some snorkels and face masks at the nearby shops and explore the shallows with the little ones.
Whatever you’re into, family holidays in Menorca are a great choice for kids and parents alike.
