Guest Post – Welcoming the New Year in Style: Top Five Cities for a Memorable NYE

Written by Lauren on. Posted in Miscellaneous

While thousands of people all over the country will be panicking about the impending Christmas festivities – the school concerts, the work’s do, the presents and the Christmas dinner – others will be looking ahead to when the real fun begins… the New Year celebrations! It’s easy to stay at home for New Year and either enjoy some quality time with family, watching Jools Holland on the TV, or heading out to the local pub to bring in the new year with friends and regulars, but if you do want to do something different this year, there are plenty of UK cities that know how to do these celebrations in style.

Get yourself organised, sooner rather than later, because if you choose to attend a ticketed event, tickets can sell out fast. Grab yourself a great value evening dress if you’re opting for somewhere a little upmarket or choose a trusty little black party dress if you’re hoping to paint the town red. Whatever you choose to wear, you don’t have to spend a fortune to look good, so be conscious of what you spend. After all, you’ll need as many pennies as you can get for the night out to remember!

As for what city to choose, the UK is awash with superb options that will appeal to all requirements, but these five continue to stand out in the knowing-how-to-party stakes; especially at New Year.

London

With an abundance of club nights and parties to choose from and, of course, the impressive fireworks that light up the night’s sky from the South Bank, London is full of cool and exciting ideas to make this NYE one to remember. Keep an eye out on the big name clubs in the city – they may have already started to advertise tickets, or at least, will be soon.

Edinburgh

Home to the mother of all NYE parties, Edinburgh is renowned for its Hogmanay celebrations and is tremendously popular with Scots and visitors from all over. You can expect to join over 80,000 revellers for the celebrations as they bring in the New Year beneath an illuminated Edinburgh Castle, watching live music from top bands including the Pet Shop Boys.

Dublin

From the city’s torchlit procession that walks the streets to the live music hosted in College Green to help bring in the New Year, Dublin is a real force to be reckoned with when it comes to parties, and there’s no better opportunity to see how it’s done than on New Year’s Eve.

Newquay

Head down to the south coast for a chance to join hordes of other party animals in a barmy and fun-filled evening of celebrations. Take the opportunity to don some fancy dress (the more ridiculous, the better) and head to Central Square where there’s a fancy dress carnival, before falling through the doors of the many pubs and clubs in the area to ring in the New Year.

Northumberland

It’s a bit of an odd one to add to the list, but the traditions that the small village of Allendale enjoy during their NYE celebrations are a sight to behold. The Tar Bar’l ceremony is an age old tradition that continues to this day, and includes local guys carrying flaming barrels of tar through the streets at midnight – it’s fair to say that it’s a fire hazard, but an entertaining one at that!

Say hello to 2014 in style with a well-planned NYE party to remember!
