Six months ago sitting down to dinner was my least favourite time of day. I’d spend ages cooking, put their bowls in front of them and hear the words “don’t like that.” This would be followed by Spud being up and down on his chair, using his fingers and generally forgetting all table manners. With Spike being only two years old he looks to his big brother for guidance and copies EVERYTHING that he does.
You see we had previously been using a highchair that “grows” with your child but upon climbing into it, it tipped backwards and Spud only just managed to jump off before it hit the ground. He found it hilarious and I put it down to him being too boisterous when he climbed up. I decided maybe he was too old for it so handed it down to Spike and put Spud onto a normal dining chair. About a week later the highchair tipped when Spike climbed in. He is a lot more cautious with climbing than Spud so it really shouldn’t have tipped. Luckily the hubby has super human ninja reflexes and caught Spike before he hit the wall. The highchair went to the tip.
Spike went onto a Stokke Handysitt and Spud was still on a dining chair. Spud never seemed comfortable, he was always fidgeting and had to sit on his knees to reach his dinner. We decided things needed to change and looked into getting him a Stokke Tripp Trapp. Upon getting the Stokke Xplory my world was opened up to a whole community of Stokke users and there is a reason they are known as Stokke Lovers! Everybody had such praise for the Stokke Tripp Trapp that I really wanted to give it a go.
The Hubby was skeptical. The dangerous highchair that we had just thrown out was a well-known Tripp Trapp copy but after asking many, many questions we were reassured that the Tripp Trapp was head and shoulders above its copies and well worth its money. That’s the second thing that put the Hubby off. With Spud being four, he didn’t feel like we would get over £100 worth of use out of it but I reassured him that Tripp Trapp’s last forever – the boys could use them as desk chairs in the future and it would even hold his weight.
I convinced him that we needed two and we placed the order. It took about an hour to decide on the colour as they are all fab but we opted for boring natural wood so that no matter what decor we used the Stokke Tripp Trapp’s would always match. When they arrived I was like a kid at Christmas. They took me literally 5 minutes to set up and I was able to adjust each one easily to suit each child’s size.
We all absolutely love them. It has completely revolutionised dinner time. The quality is absolutely fantastic and I have no doubt that they can last years. Both boys sit nicely and comfortably in the perfect position to reach their food. Both are learning how to use knives to push food onto their plates at the moment and we haven’t heard one word of complaint about food since we started using the Stokke Tripp Trapps. Both boys can push themselves away from the table when they have finished without even a hint of tippage and both climb up and down with ease.
I wish we had started with Stokke Tripp Trapps they offer a complete system from birth to adulthood and would have saved us a lot of money and hassle in the long-term. I am so excited about buying Dot a Stokke Tripp Trapp with newborn seat so that she can join us at dinner time because I will never forget having Spike at my feet catching crumbs in a bouncer whilst we all ate! Our next stop will be cushions for the boys but again, which one do I choose?!
