Christmas is a time for chilling out with family, eating a lot of food and generally spreading the love. One huge Christmas tradition for a lot of people is sitting down as a family and watching movies. Every Christmas as a child I watched Mary Poppins on the TV despite owning it on VHS and so many movies have become such classics that they frequently appear in the listings every year.
In keeping with the movie tradition, Warner Bros. sent us a box of goodies to wish us a very Merry Christmas. As well as a cute stocking filled with snowflakes, chocolate and candy canes we received The Polar Express for the Boys, the action filled Dark Knight Rises and the feel good film New Years Eve.
The Polar Express
“It’s Christmas Eve, and you’re about to roller-coaster up and down mountains, slip-slide over ice fields, tetter across mile-high bridges and be served hot chocolate by singing waiter more astonishing than any you can ever imagine. You’re on The Polar Express!
Tom Hanks stars in and Robert Zemeckis directs this instant holiday classic filmed in dazzling performance-capture animation that makes every home magical.“
We received The Polar Express 3D which comes with a whopping 4 copies of the film. A 3D Blu Ray, a Blu Ray, a DVD and a digital copy so that the movie can be enjoyed on all forms of media. We don’t own a 3D tv so went straight for the Blu Ray which we could play on our PS3. The Polar Express has gone down a storm with the whole family and grips all 4 of us from the start. The Boys love it so much that they wanted it on in their bedroom during quiet time and using the DVD copy I was able to put it on for them. With the UltraViolet digital copy I will be able to upload it to the laptop for them to enjoy the next time we go away putting me high up on their list for mother of the year award! The Polar Express 3D is only £14 on Amazon at the moment and is one that definitely shouldn’t be missed, that is fantastic value for 4 copies of the film!
The Dark Knight Rises
“It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.
But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.”
Anyone that knows me, knows I am a HUGE Batman fan. I slipped in the fan stakes this year by being unable to see The Dark Knight Rises at the cinema. I was thrilled when Warner Bros. sent us the Blue Ray and UV copy so the Hubby and I settled down last Saturday night to watch it together. It did not disappoint and like Batman Begin and The Dark Knight it was jam-packed with action scenes that literally had you on the edge of your seat. About half way through the Hubby and I both commented that it was a fairly long film as there was a slight lull but it was short-lived and it came back to us guns blazing with a fantastic ending. The Dark Knight Rises Blu Ray is available on Amazon for £12.50.
New Years Eve
“New Year’s Eve celebrates love, hope, forgiveness, second chances and fresh starts, with intertwining stories told amidst the pulse and promise of New York City on the most dazzling night of the year.”
This was definitely more of a chick flick so I watched it this afternoon whilst the Hubby slept ready for his night shift. It was a feel good film with a fair few big names including Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Michelle Pfeiffer and Sarah Jessica Parker. If you have seen the film Valentines Day where it’s about lots of different stories then you will have the basic idea of the layout of New Years Eve. It was a pretty good film, very easy to watch and it made me feel a bit gooey at the end but it’s not really one that I personally would buy – I like Batman so that says a lot about the sort of girl that I am! One of the only things that kept me properly glued to the screen were the grown up Zak Efron and Jon Bon Jovi! New Year’s Eve Blu Ray and UV edition is available to purchase from Amazon at £15.00
