Green Fingers

This is our garden.

After 4 weeks of almost constant rain the grass has gone crazy.  Every time we say “right we are going to cut the grass” the heavens open.  The biggest problem that we have is the lack of sunlight.  Our garden is in total shade for 90% of the day due to the gigantic trees on the other side of the fence.  We have spoken to the council about having them trimmed back but because they aren’t dangerous they will only drop them by 30% and it could be any time within the next two years.  Gee thanks.  It needs a lot of work doing to the beds and edges to make it pretty, I just wish the weather would hold out long enough for it to be worth while!

Due to the lack of sunlight and massive amount of rain our grass is more like weed.  It makes it a right pain to mow and with the stinging nettles snaking through the fence it’s a huge strimming job as well.  Both boys love playing out in the garden so it does make me feel guilty if we have a tiny bit of a nice day that they can’t play out because it’s such a mess but with a little bit of lawn care we should be able to get it to a nice enough standard.  We also want to get a new lawnmower, the type with wheels on as our Flymo doesn’t glide over the rough weeds and sort of chops erratically at them at least with a newer one we will have a much nicer lawn!

We just bought the boys a second hand playhouse for the garden which is huge and even has a garage on the side, it just needs a good clean!  Coupled with their sand pit and ride ons the garden will be my lifesaver as long as the weather picks up!
