When we were asked to review the award winning Bibetta Ultrabib I was extremely excited. Excited about a bib I hear you say, well yes I was. I had seen them every time I go to the supermarket but never wanted to spend nearly £5 on a bib because I felt it was a waste for something that lasts one meal. Well how wrong I was.
When the two large Bibetta Ultrabibs arrived in the brand new Green Bubbles and Tangerine designs I was just on the way out the door to catch the train to Nana and Pops’ house. I quickly shoved them in my bag and noted just how easy they were to roll up small and how they felt a bit like a wetsuit. I was on form that day because Bibetta’s Ultrabibs are made from high performance Neoprene, the same material used to make wetsuits. It has a 100% waterproof, rubber inner layer and are covered with nylon which is easy to clean and quick drying. The combination of these materials makes an extremely durable bib that even on first impressions seems like it will put up with the toughest spills.
I had opted for the large Bibetta Ultrabibs because they are for 6 months to 4 years, they are available in a smaller size and with sleeves if you have a really messy baby. I decided to use one on each boy because even though Spud is 3 he still has some spillages. He used to eat things like Spaghetti Bolognaise in just a vest because it didn’t matter to me if that stained but even with a normal bib on he would somehow manage to get some on his top! I absolutely love the fold out “food catcher” on Bibetta Ultrabibs. Both boys especially Spike end up filling it after a meal and it means that the food doesn’t get squished around the crotch bar of his highchair. It’s also handy for the end of the meal when Spike thinks that he has finished, he looks down and realises that he has some left. It’s as if he is filling the Ultrabib and saving it for later! The food catcher can be folded away if you don’t need it and makes the Ultrabib really compact when folding.
We have found that if they spill something wet down them it very quickly soaks into the outer layer but doesn’t soak through to their clothes. After using we simply wipe the Ultrabib with a wet wipe and it’s ready for the next meal. After a few uses they both were filthy. The colours are so vibrant that I made a comment to my Mum about my doubts on how they would come out after they were washed. I popped them in a 30 degree wash and then tumble dried them and they came out as good as new. I have washed them about 8 times over the few weeks that I have had them and they still look like I have only just received them. You can see the evidence on the photos below, the left one was pre wash and the right is the first use post wash.
The Velcro fastener is another firm favourite of mine because Spike had just entered that stage where he could pull his bib off mid meal but with the Ultrabib the Velcro goes right around the back of his neck and holds firm so he can’t take it off, dip it in his food and then throw it on the floor! Both boys love the Ultrabibs, they are very funky looking bibs so Spud makes sure that he gets in on the action at every meal time and not just the messy ones. I love them and kick myself for not buying them sooner!
Bibetta Ultrabibs are available online, in all large supermarkets, Toys R Us and Boots with prices starting at £4.50.
