MyFamilyClub help out with Free Things to do with the Kids this Summer

As the School Holidays fast approach many parents dread having to entertain children for 6 weeks especially on a budget. Luckily this year we have the Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics and Paralympics so there are plenty of events to celebrate across the whole of the UK. In the Budget Busting and Money Saving Tips with MyFamilyClub post last week I mentioned that one of the benefits was the ebooks that are in the Members area. My favourite is the Free Things to do with the Kids this Summer. Inside it is jam packed with things across every region of the UK from Museums to Parades. Here are some other ideas to help keep the children from being bored.

Visit the Library – It is totally free to become a member of your local library and even Spike at 16 months loves going there and looking through all the picture books. They often do singing and rhyming groups in Libraries but it’s worth checking if they only run during term time.

Go on a Treasure Hunt – The woods, the garden, the park…..literally any location can be fab for little Pirates to hunt out treasure and if you can organise it without them you can plant some actual treasure for them to find!

Museum entry is often free. The Science Museum and the National History Museum in London are both amazing and well worth a visit if you are local or can get there. Eureka in Halifax isn’t free but it’s cheap and the Bradford Media Museum and the National Railway in York are free. I’ve heard from a good source that all three of these are brilliant days out but I’m a Southern Fairy so can’t speak from experience!

Go to the beach – Going on nice days that aren’t scorchers are probably your safest bet so that they aren’t too busy.

A Nature Walk – whilst getting fresh air, looking for birds and other wildlife you can collect twigs and bits for collage crafts when you get home of bits of interesting bark and leaves for leaf rubbings!

Have a picnic. Pack up your lunch and take it out with you, take a teddy and it becomes a Teddy Bear’s Picnic!

Look for events. We have lots of Jubilee events going on from a 1950′s street party to celebrations in the middle of town. Many are advertised on the Internet or in local community centres and newspapers.
There are so many more things to do for free this summer, take a look at the ebook in the members area of MyFamilyClub for ideas and let your imagination run wild.
