Review – Trunki PaddlePak

I used to take Spud swimming every week but when we moved down here it was something that I kept putting off.  Then Spike was born and the thought of taking a toddler and a tiny baby freaked me right out.  Every month i’d say to the Hubby “this month we are buying swimming stuff and taking the boys” but there was always something that got in the way.  Fast forward 14 months and Spike had still never been swimming.  When Trunki asked us to review their brand new PaddlePak, I put my foot down.  I literally dragged the Hubby to town yesterday and made him choose some swimming shorts and help me pick out things for the boys.

“PaddlePak is a cute backpack ideal for days out, trips to the beach, swimming pool or school. It’s made from a waterproof, lightweight and durable material with an ingenious roll top that creates a wide opening for easy packing, with 3 twists creates a dry seal preventing wet contents leaking through and clips together with our patent pending break-away safety buckle. Also features a neoprene tail fin which doubles as a dry pocket, hi-visibility reflective trim and the unique Trunki grip™ to keep sunglasses or goggles close to hand. PaddlePak is the perfect partner for little explorers.”

Spud has a bit of a bag fetish so was immediately drawn to the PaddlePak and he absolutely loved how many toys he could pack inside.  The large top opening means Spud can access his things quickly and easily without the need to totally unpack the bag, it’s extremely easy to get things in and out and it seals tightly keeping them safe.  The bright Trunki colours appealed to him and he was fascinated that it looked like a fish when closed properly.    After much negotiation I managed to prise it from his grip and pack his swimming things.  We managed to fit a full sized towel, a poncho towel, two toddler all in one swimming costumes, 4 Huggies Little swimmers and a packet of wet wipes into the bag with plenty of room to close it properly.  Spud carried it for the duration of the 10 minute walk from the car to the pool with no complaints.  The straps are nicely padded so would definitely be comfortable for long periods of time.  He loved the little fin pocket because it was the perfect size for a couple of toy cars which are a must have item for him when we go anywhere!

The one thing that annoyed me when I used to take Spud swimming was no matter which bag we used after swimming unless we lined it was a plastic shopping bag it would always get damp and seep through.  I was a bit skeptical about the PaddlePak because it doesn’t feel or look like it is going to be waterproof but after swimming we put everyone’s costumes in with one of our towels and sealed it using the 3 twist seal.

I really did put the PaddlePak through its paces because the Hubby accidentally left it in the car boot and I completely forgot about it because it was past tea time by the time we got home.  The next day the Hubby trotted off to work and I went to put the washing on but couldn’t find it.  I had to wait for him to come home and was pleasantly surprised to find that even after 24 hours with 4 peoples wet costumes in there wasn’t a hint of damp on the outside of the bag!

Overall we all loved the Trunki PaddlePak, it is the perfect bag for taking my little people swimming.  It could be used for other activities and being so lightweight it is perfect for days out when Toddlers need to carry their own bags like school trips.
