Review – Hotel Chocolat Christmas Gifts

Written by Lauren on. Posted in Food & Drink, Reviews

Hotel Chocolat is one of my favourite shops, with wall to wall chocolate all of which looks absolutely delicious what more can a girl ask for?!  I always make a beeline for the gift section, no matter what time of year it is because they seem to be spot on at making the perfect gift with combinations of their finest chocolate. Their Christmas gift selection has to be their most impressive, especially this year. From advent calenders to huge selection boxes there really is something for everyone and every budget. Every time I go into town I try and drag the Hubby into Hotel Chocolat but he refuses to let me stand awestruck staring at chocolate heaven unless it’s close to Christmas. I think he’s just trying to get some gift inspiration by letting me loose in there! However this year my delightful two year old has become a little chocoholic so we are refusing to introduce him to the magic chocolate shop in town for our own sanity, which has led to me missing out. Imagine my pure excitement when Hotel Chocolat asked me if I would like to review something from their Christmas range!   I headed straight for the Christmas section on their website and had a very through browse.  After what seemed like an age I settled on the Christmas Stocking.

When the parcel arrived I was jumping around like a child of Christmas morning and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a lot larger than I imagined.  It is the same sort of size as a standard stocking and the fact that it was full of chocolate was amazing.  The gorgeous cream and gold stocking comes filled with some of Hotel Chocolat’s best products.  It contains a packet of Tiddly White Santa’s, Milk Chocolate Drops, a Milk Chocolate Reindeer Lick and a Cool Penguin 100g Slab.

The stocking is brilliant quality and can definitely be used again so the Hubby now has something to fill with Hotel Chocolat every year, no more searching for inspiration for him!  The chocolate was absolutely amazing.  For review purposes (of course) I had to eat it all but with the help of my Thinking Slimmer Slimpod I was able to spread it out over a few weeks rather than gorge on the day that it arrived.  The Milk Chocolate Drops are 40% cocoa and melt in your mouth for a delicious creamy chocolate taste.  They are so chocolaty that they lasted me a long time because one was enough for a chocolate hit.  The Milk Chocolate Reindeer Lick was pure chocolate yumminess and was devoured within a few minutes of opening but I will say that I did let Spud have a tiny bit because he busted me opening it in the kitchen!  The Tiddly Santa’s are white chocolate and like the Reindeer Lick taste sublime.  The Cool Penguin Slab is the same melt in the mouth 40% milk chocolate that the drops are made from but the slab is filled with cookie pieces and features a caramel penguin on the top.  The mixture of these flavours made for an absolutely amazing taste.

Hotel Chocolat are one of the very few Origin Chocolatiers in the World and the only British one at that.  This simply means that they grow their own Cocoa.  Their Cocoa is grown ethically and they take great care and pay a lot of attention to their plantations.  One plantation is in St Lucia which in recent years has had problems with their Cocoa growing plantations so with the Engaged Ethics Program Hotel Chocolat offer technical help, advice and high quality seedlings as well as the guarantee that the farmers will receive prices above those of the World Market.  The care and attention that Hotel Chocolat provide from day 1 can really be tasted in their products.

Now the Hotel Chocolat stocking retails for £22 and all of their products are pricier than the chocolate that you can buy from the newsagent but there really is no comparison.  For the quality and standard every item in Hotel Chocolat is worth it’s price tag.

I did not receive any financial reward for writing this review. However, we did receive the product for review purposes. This post is my own honest opinion. For more information please see our Disclosure Policy.
