Days 1 and 2 went brilliantly so I didn’t expect anything less today. He woke up and we sat him straight on the potty. I think we aren’t being quick enough at this part because his Huggies PULL-UPS® are always wet when we take them off. Obviously I know we have a way to go until he is dry at night but he doesn’t need a wee when he gets up so he must empty his bladder when he first wakes.
The Hubby took the boys downstairs whilst I tried to get a lie in. Tried being the operative word! Eventually I gave up and he said that Spud hadn’t yet been for a wee despite being asked every 5 minutes. I asked him and straight away he said yes, rushed to the potty and preceded to do a huge wee! Somebody was trying to get Daddy into trouble! We had a morning of all wees being in the potty again and at about 11am he kept touching his bottom and was walking like a penguin. Eventually after about 45 minutes of this and numerous trips to the potty with his Leaptop he finally did a poo – and it was on the potty! He did catch me covering my mouth as a gagged though and covered his own so I really need to try and be a bit stronger as I don’t want him to think it’s a bad thing!
We then had our first wee accident. Just after discussing with the Hubby how Spud never seems to wee and poo at the same time Spud weed on the carpet. I think the fact that he had spent so long on the potty meant that once the poo was finally disposed of the distraction was just too much for him. Later on in the day whilst he was playing with the hoover we had a near accident but made it to the potty in time with just a dribble on the carpet.
So day 3 is over. Tomorrow we are going to attempt to wear some trousers. Whenever we have put trousers on him he’s forgotten completely what we are doing but he has Summer Creche on Monday so I don’t think they will appreciate a bottomless Spud running around! It is really easy to think that we have cracked it but I don’t want to get complacent as I know this is a huge feat for toddlers to undertake and there will be accidents and sometimes it will feel like one step forwards, two steps back. We have been extremely lucky so far and I definitely think it’s down to the fact that he was ready and we didn’t rush him.
